Prostate Cancer: Node-Positive Disease
Coordinating radiation and systemic therapy when pelvic lymph nodes contain cancer.
← Back to diagnosis resourcesOverview
Node-positive prostate cancer means cancer has been identified in regional lymph nodes. The treatment approach depends on whether nodal disease was found on imaging at diagnosis, discovered during prostate surgery, or detected later, and whether disease is present elsewhere in the body.
For appropriately selected patients without distant metastases, treatment may combine radiation to the prostate or prostate bed and pelvic lymph nodes with androgen deprivation therapy. Additional systemic treatment may be considered for some high-risk patients. Recommendations require multidisciplinary review of imaging, pathology, PSA, prior treatment, health and patient goals.
