Low-Dose Radiation Therapy (LDRT) for Osteoarthritis
LDRT uses doses much lower than those commonly used to treat cancer. For selected adults with persistent, symptomatic osteoarthritis, it may be considered as a noninvasive option intended to influence inflammation and potentially reduce pain. Research is continuing, results vary, and LDRT is not appropriate for every patient. A consultation is needed to review prior treatments, imaging, health history, expected benefits, uncertainties and possible risks.
