Overview

Low-risk prostate cancer often grows slowly. Depending on age, health, biopsy findings, PSA, imaging and personal preferences, options may include active surveillance, radiation therapy or surgery.

Active surveillance uses scheduled PSA testing, clinical review, imaging and repeat biopsy when appropriate. For patients choosing treatment, several radiation approaches may be considered. The choice should reflect cancer features, urinary and sexual function, other health conditions and the benefits and side effects that matter most to the patient.
